"1999 marks the beginning of an exciting time for coin collectors. From 1999 - 2008, the standard design on the reverse ( Tails ) side of the Washington quarter will be replaced with a design representative of one of the fifty states. This redesign is the first change to the quarter in more than twenty years. The words "United States of America" and "quarter dollar" will be moved to the heads side of the new quarters, and the year of minting will appear on the tails side." - Whitman Publishing
