The Roosevelt dime was made to honor the popular president who led America through the Great Depression and most of World War II. John R. Sinnock was the coin's designer; his initials appear at the truncation of the neck. From 1946 to 1964, the Roosevelt dime was struck in 90% silver. Beginning in 1965 and continuing to this day, they have been made in clad composition. Clad coins have a pure copper core with an outer layer of copper-nickel on both sides. The copper is visible when the coin is viewed edge-on." - Whitman Publishing
